Ultimately, we want people to respect our time and attention.
To achieve this, we need to respect other people’s time and attention.
Small movements towards this approach can help you to gain trust and integrity with your peers and managers.
There are many different ways to achieve this:
Add ‘#page=[page no.]’ to the end of any PDF hyperlink to send your colleague directly to the relevant page.
Save them energy by linking directly to page 83 if that’s where the action is e.g. ‘www.website.com/file.pdf#page=83’.
Before you hit send on a message to your manager or colleagues this week, ask yourself “Is there any supporting information they might need that I should add a link to?”.
If so, include a hyperlink.
If the file is PDF, direct them to the exact page using the method above.
If the file is not a PDF, then name the relevant section.
Your small efforts to respect the attention of your teammates will get you noticed and will pay off over time.
